Warriors GM: Curry's lack of ego helped entice Durant

When superstars align, there's usually some friction that comes with it. Kobe and Shaq went through it. The Miami Heat's Big Three had their problems.

But Kevin Durant is wired differently. He doesn't mind sharing the spotlight with Stephen Curry, and he was actually quite taken with Curry's selfless free agency pitch.

Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers appeared Monday on the Jim Rome Show to detail Curry's importance during Durant's recruitment.

"If you know Steph, he doesn't have an ego. He looked in Kevin's eyes and said, 'I want you on this team', and he sent a brilliant text to Kevin that said, 'If you win MVP or I win MVP, it doesn't matter; we're trying to win championships. And if you do win, I'll be in the front row clapping for you at the press conference.'"

Adding another high-usage player like Durant would presumably steal some of the spotlight, but Curry seems fine with that. The Warriors have been overly reliant on Curry in recent seasons and he has worn down during deep postseason runs. Being able to share the load with Durant should solve that problem.

As for Durant, joining a championship-proven team like the Warriors should significantly improve the odds of him securing his first title, and perhaps many more to follow.

"Steph Curry resonates with a guy like Kevin Durant that says it's not about anything other than winning, and that's what our players said, and I think (Durant) heard it, and it meant something to him," Myers said.
