Isaiah Thomas: Iverson said we're 'cut from the same cloth'

As a sub-6-foot guard with a knack for scoring, it's not difficult to see the similarities between Isaiah Thomas and Allen Iverson.

Iverson, the now-Hall of Fame point guard, appears to agree with the comparison, telling Thomas earlier in the week he sees many similar qualities in the two players.

"He told me I'm cut from the same cloth as him," Thomas told The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach. "I go about my ways the same way he did, and now that he's told me that, nobody can tell me anything. So that's a check off my list that he approves of my game, and he's really a fan of not just me as a basketball player but me as a person, and that says a lot, because I followed every footstep that he took and I want to be just like him."

While they haven't known each other for long, Thomas' bond with Iverson has grown considerably over the last several months. After exploding for a 42-point performance in the first round of last year's playoffs, Thomas credited an Iverson text as his source of motivation.

Thomas enjoyed his best season in 2015-16, averaging 22.2 points, 6.2 assists, and three rebounds, which earned him his first All-Star nod. Should he continue to improve, the Boston Celtics guard may one day find himself in Springfield like his idol.
