Lakers' Nick Young: Likely to be traded or waived
The Lakers aren't expected to retain Young for the upcoming season, Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding reports.
Analysis:
Young is due $5.44 million for 2016-17 and holds a $5.66 million player option for the 2017-18 season, but the 31-year-old's declining play last season coupled with his fractured relationship with teammate D'Angelo Russell that stemmed from a controversial leaked video has left the Lakers anxious to move on. Given that he's shot a combined 35.3 percent from the field across the last two seasons and doesn't offer much impact on the defensive end, it's unclear if Young is even an NBA-caliber player at this point in his career, so a trade isn't guaranteed to materialize. It's more likely that the Lakers just write Young off as a sunk cost and release him before the season begins.
