Towns: 'Things are about to change' for Timberwolves
Look out world, the Minnesota Timberwolves are coming.
That is, according to Karl-Anthony Towns, who recently posted this on Instagram:
On Wednesday, he explained what he meant.
"A lot of people tend to think we're the Timberwolves and we're at the bottom of the barrel," Towns told Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press. "I just want people to know that we're coming. Just remember us, because where we were the last 13 years, things are about to change."
The reigning Rookie of the Year was referring to the Timberwolves' lack of success in recent years; they haven't made the playoffs in 12 campaigns and haven't had a winning record since 2004-05, when the late Flip Saunders was still coaching.
There's reason for optimism. Minnesota has a blossoming young core that includes a potentially generational talent in Towns, a fellow former first overall pick in Andrew Wiggins, an athletic, sharpshooting dunk machine in Zach LaVine, a solid playmaker in Ricky Rubio, and one of the most NBA-ready players from June's draft in Kris Dunn. New coach Tom Thibodeau should be able to help the squad improve upon its 27th-ranked defense in 2015-16.
