Celtics' Tyler Zeller: Re-signs with Celtics

Zeller re-signed Saturday with the Celtics on a two-year, $16 million contract, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports.

Analysis:

Zeller ended up getting lost in the shuffle last season due to the Celtics' glut of big men, so it wasn't expected that he'd be retained heading into the offseason. However, with Jared Sullinger leaving for the Raptors and Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2016-17 season, Zeller will provide some veteran insurance in the frontcourt. Zeller averaged 6.1 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game over 60 appearances last season, and while he could see those figures spike while Olynyk is out, the big man will likely get buried on the depth chart when the roster returns to full strength.
