Tom Brady's pitch almost convinced Durant to sign with Celtics

Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps the Boston Celtics seemed desperate when they brought New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to their pitch meeting with Kevin Durant early this month, but apparently the ploy almost worked.

According to Durant, simply breathing the same air as Brady nearly had him intoxicated enough to sign with the Celtics.

"I was ready to just say, 'OK. Lets go,'" Durant told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne on Monday.

Brady reportedly tried to sell Durant on the aura of Boston, telling him how special it feels to win a championship in that city.

But while the Celtics had a football legend, the Golden State Warriors had Jerry West and Steve Nash whispering in Durant's ear, and in the end it was the basketball legends who won out.

"It's great to be in the presence of such greatness," Durant said of meeting Brady. "But at the same time I knew I couldn't let that distract me."
