Pacers' Georges Niang: Signs rookie contract

Niang officially signed a rookie contract with the Pacers on Monday, NBA.com reports.

Analysis:

Niang, the 50th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, was never viewed as a candidate to begin his career overseas, as the Pacers selected the polished college senior with the expectation that he'd be NBA-ready. Based on his production in the Orlando Summer League, Niang proved the Pacers' assessment to be correct, as he averaged 10.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 23.8 minutes per game over five appearances, all while shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 5-for-13 (38.5%) from three-point range. With a strong training camp, the versatile but athletically limited Niang could becoming a rotation player early on in his career.
