Report: Rockets hope to re-sign Motiejunas

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Donatas Motiejunas had one foot out the door prior to the NBA trade deadline when the Houston Rockets shipped him off to the Detroit Pistons in a deal that was ultimately voided due to health concerns.

Months later, the Rockets are hoping to retain the 25-year-old restricted free agent, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen.

The team tendered a qualifying offer of $3.4 million to Motiejunas on June 30.

Houston recently locked up sharpshooting big man Ryan Anderson to a reported four-year, $80-million contract, which is nice insurance to have should Motiejunas sign an offer sheet that the Rockets refuse to match.

Motiejunas played in just 37 games last season for the 41-41 Rockets after recovering from surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, averaging 6.2 points on 43.9 percent shooting in 14.8 minutes.
