Nuggets' Gary Harris: GM offers vote of confidence for starting job

Nuggets GM Tim Connelly said Thursday that Harris is still viewed as the team's starting shooting guard, Harrison Wind of BSN Denver reports.

Analysis:

After seeing limited court time as a rookie in 2014-15, Harris claimed the starting job in his second year in the league after Arron Afflalo bolted for the Knicks in free agency and Wilson Chandler missed all of last season after undergoing hip surgery. Over 76 appearances, Harris averaged 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals across 32.1 minutes per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the floor, but at this stage of his career, he's more polished as a defender than he is on the offensive end. Perhaps in an effort to address that deficiency in Harris' game, the Nuggets added combo guard Jamal Murray, who profiles as more of a scorer, with the No. 7 overall pick in last Thursday's draft, and nabbed three-point threat Malik Beasley with the No. 19 pick. While the Nuggets may very well proceed with Harris as their starter, it's hard to imagine him seeing his minutes or production increase now that Murray and Beasley are in the fold, along with a healthy Chandler.
