Bulls' Jose Calderon: Traded to Chicago in five-player deal

Calderon was traded Wednesday to the Bulls along with Jerian Grant and Robin Lopez in exchange for Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday and a 2017 second-round pick, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

A lack of other experienced options at point guard resulted in Calderon starting 72 games for the Knicks last season, but he was one of the league's least effective regulars at the position, averaging just 7.6 points (on 45.9% shooting from the field), 4.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 three-pointers and 0.9 steals across 28.1 minutes per contest. With Rose getting sent to the Knicks in Wednesday's trade and E'Twaun Moore and Aaron Brooks set to become free agents this offseason, the Bulls have an opening in the starting five at point guard, but don't expect Calderon to receive the kind of favorable treatment he enjoyed in New York. The second-year Grant, who played behind Calderon as a rookie, could quickly surpass the veteran on the depth chart as the Bulls look toward the future, and it's also conceivable that the Bulls could draft a point guard or add one through free agency to serve as their starter at the position.
