Steve Kerr unfazed: 'I like our position a lot better than theirs'
With Monday's Game 5 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors failed to capitalize on a close-out opportunity for only the second time in their last nine tries.
Still, head coach Steve Kerr knows his team remains in prime position to capture a second straight championship.
"It's the NBA finals," Kerr said when asked how much adversity he's prepared for his team to deal with. "You have two great teams, and I kind of like our position. It would have been nice to win tonight, but we didn't win. We didn't play very well. They played well. So we go back to Cleveland and tee it up again. But I like our position a lot better than theirs."
The Cavs will have home court advantage in Game 6, and the Warriors may be without starting center Andrew Bogut, but Golden State will also get All-NBA big man Draymond Green back from suspension, and have only suffered back-to-back losses once all season.
In addition, for Cleveland to win the series, they'll have to hand the Warriors their first three-game losing streak since 2013.
The Warriors had the chance to win the title at home on Monday for the first time in franchise history, as their triumphs in 1975 and 2015 came on the road. Instead, they'll now look to repeat as champions in Cleveland one year to the day that they sealed the 2015 championship at Quicken Loans Arena.
