Spurs' David West: Declines player option

West will decline his $1.55 million player option for the 2016-17 season and become an unrestricted free agent, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

West saw his playing time diminish greatly in his first year with the Spurs, with his 18.0 minutes per game marking his lowest average since his rookie season. With the salary cap expected to rise at the start of the new league year, West is likely hoping for a bit of a pay raise. Look for West to try and latch on with another title contender, unless of course the 14-year veteran decides to call it a career and retire.
