Thompson worried about Zika if picked for Rio: 'Mosquitoes love me'
The prospective Olympic participants for Team USA this summer have been dropping like flies, but it's the mosquitoes in Rio that have roster finalist Klay Thompson concerned.
Thompson affirmed his desire to participate in the Games if he's selected to USA's 12-man roster, but admitted that the mosquito-transmitted Zika virus currently plaguing Brazil gives him some pause.
"Mosquitoes love me," Thompson told reporters Tuesday. "I grew up in Oregon. I was always getting bit."
Thompson's Golden State Warriors backcourt mate, Steph Curry, announced his withdrawal from consideration for the Team USA roster on Monday, making him the sixth of the 30 finalists to pull out.
Curry said Tuesday that his withdrawal was the result of injuries alone, and that Zika "didn't have a bearing" on his decision.
