Cavs' Thompson: 'We didn't play hard'

David Richard / USA TODAY Sports

Tristan Thompson had an easy explanation for what led to the Cleveland Cavaliers' demise in Sunday's Game 2 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

"We didn’t play hard," Thompson said after the Cavs fell to the Warriors 110-77, putting the Eastern Conference champs in a 2-0 hole as the series shifts to Cleveland. "They won the 50-50 balls, they wanted it more than us tonight, and it shows in the outcome."

Coupled with their 15-point win in Game 1, the Warriors' point differential of plus-48 is the largest through two games in NBA Finals history, and Thompson is well aware that home cooking alone won't turn the series around.

"We will be in front of our crowd and they will definitely give us energy but at the same time we have to ignite our crowd," the Cavs' power forward said.

"We have to come out and play with some fight and some energy. We had low energy tonight, they got all the balls and we can’t have that in Cleveland."

Thompson finished with eight points and five rebounds in 19 minutes of action on Sunday.

Game 3 goes down Wednesday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
