Report: Carlesimo to replace D'Antoni as 76ers' top assistant

The Philadelphia 76ers are moving quickly to fill the void on their coaching staff left by the departure of top assistant Mike D'Antoni.

D'Antoni is reportedly finalizing a deal to become head coach of the Houston Rockets, and the Sixers are replacing him with analyst and former coach P.J. Carlesimo, according to Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer.

Carlesimo last coached in an interim role with the Brooklyn Nets in 2012-13, leading them to a 35-19 record after spending two-plus seasons with the franchise as an assistant.

He previously served as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs, and as a head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder/Seattle SuperSonics, Golden State Warriors, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Sixers president and general manager Bryan Colangelo is familiar with Carlesimo, as he was serving in the same role with the Raptors when Carlesimo coached there.
