Retired NBA player and Canadian basketball legend Steve Nash received the Order of Canada on Friday for his outstanding charitable work.

Nash was invested as an officer - the second-highest rank that can be given. In total, 48 individuals were honored by Governor General David Johnston during the ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Nash put together a Hall of Fame-worthy career during his 18 NBA seasons, earning eight All-Star game appearances and collecting back-to-back MVP awards in the mid-2000s. Nash was also an integral part of the Canadian national team, earning MVP during the 2004 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Nash currently serves as the general manager or the Canadian senior national team.

Nash was recognized for his exemplary charity work, establishing the Steve Nash Foundation to help underprivileged children throughout Canada, the United States, and Paraguay.
