T-Mac: Curry's unanimous MVP indicative of 'watered down' NBA

Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady has proven to be a capable broadcaster since retiring as a player, but on Tuesday he went the "get off my lawn" route in discussing Stephen Curry's unanimous MVP award.

"For him to be the first player to get this unanimously, I think ... it just tells you how watered down our league is," McGrady said on ESPN's "The Jump."

Curry became the first player in the 60-year history of the award to win it unanimously Tuesday, and all numbers tend to firmly back that decision up. Few would agree that the talent in today's NBA is watered down, and that's before considering McGrady starred in an era when players like Jamaal Magloire and Devin Harris were All-Stars.

Much of the longtime criticism of Curry and the Warriors circles back to an old-school distrust of excessive 3-point shooting, which in turn is rooted partly in a skeptical viewpoint of analytics. McGrady added that legends like Michael Jordan played against tougher competition, which, while a respectable opinion, ignores the sort of talent Curry faces night in and night out, including names like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker, James Harden, Anthony Davis, Dirk Nowitzki, and Dwyane Wade.

To be fair, McGrady did stress that Curry was the rightful winner of his second straight Maurice Podoloff Trophy. "It's well-deserved," he said. "He's rewriting record books."
