The Indiana Pacers announced Monday they've named Nate McMillan as their head coach.

McMillan's deal is reportedly for three years and doesn't include any options, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical.

The 51-year-old served as an assistant coach under Frank Vogel for the past three seasons, and takes over after the Pacers opted not to re-sign Vogel to a new contract despite leading the team to the playoffs five times in six years.

"I truly believe Nate is the right coach for us at this time," Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird said. "When I heard he was interested, I got in touch with him, met with him, and in our conversation I came away with all the confidence in the world in Nate to lead our franchise to where we want to go. His experience as a player, head coach, and assistant coach in the NBA are valuable assets for us."

McMillan has experience as an NBA coach with both the Seattle SuperSonics (2000-05) and Portland Trail Blazers (2005-12), owning a 478-452 career record.

"I've been around this franchise three years and understand what the expectations are and look forward to working hard to try to meet them," McMillan said. "We have a good team and good base to build from. I'm very anxious to get started."
