Goran Dragic's face has taken a beating this season
You don't get to mid-May in the NBA without taking some lumps along the way, and no one can attest to that quite like the Miami Heat's Goran Dragic, whose face has taken an absolute beating over the last five months, and particularly over the last few weeks.
Here's a look at the punishment he's taken:
Dec. 14: While trying to guard Al Horford, Dragic had a tooth knocked out, thanks to a Horford elbow that didn't draw a whistle. The sight of Dragic either sporting a bloodied mouth, crumpled on the floor, or both, soon became the norm for Miami.
April 12: Dragic caught a Spencer Dinwiddie forearm in Detroit, and then casually tossed his tooth aside on the sideline. No foul was called on the play.
May 5: Dragic tried to take a charge from DeMar DeRozan. Instead he took an elbow to the mouth and required eight stitches after his front teeth pierced through his bottom lip. Dragic was whistled for a blocking foul.
May 9: This time, it was DeRozan's sloppy ball handling that did Dragic in. After fumbling the ball, DeRozan inadvertently kicked it off Dragic's face. Adding insult to injury, the Raptors retained possession.
Four plays, multiple teeth lost, multiple stitches required, and not a single advantage gained for his team on any of them. It's a good thing Dragic lives by the mantra, "If I don't have a black eye, I'm not really playing."
