Blake Griffin ruled out for Team USA at Rio Olympics

Jaime Valdez / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Clippers announced Friday that power forward Blake Griffin will not participate in the Rio Olympics for USA Basketball this summer.

That shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Griffin missed the majority of the 2015-16 season with a quad injury and was shut down three games into the playoffs after re-aggravating it.

The Clippers announced that he underwent a bone marrow procedure on his left quad tendon on April 27, and has begun rehabbing with the aim of being ready for the start of next season.

Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding reported late last month that the surgery Griffin would require would keep him out four-to-six months.

Griffin was also forced to sit out the 2012 Olympics after injuring his knee during a Team USA practice.
