Randolph didn't appreciate Miller saying TNT crew could beat Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies are battered and bruised, but aren't waving the white flag.

The injury-riddled club suffered a franchise-worst 106-74 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1, and enter Game 2 as 18.5-point underdogs, prompting former player turned analyst Reggie Miller to claim the TNT television crew could beat Memphis' current group.

Those comments didn't sit well with Grizzlies veteran leader Zach Randolph.

"I heard that," Randolph told Geoff Calkins of The Commercial Appeal. "For what all we've been through, and all the injuries, and not having our team at full strength, we still got a group of young guys that have played hard for us. And we go out every night as veterans and play hard every night. That's all you can ask for, if you ask me."

Injuries have forced the Grizzlies to use an NBA-record 28 players this season, and they finished with the seventh seed in the Western Conference despite missing All-Star center Marc Gasol and starting point guard Mike Conley for a significant chunk of the campaign.

Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger was forced to start Matt Barnes, Chris Anderson, Vince Carter, Jordan Farmer, and Randolph in Game 1 - a lineup that boasts an average age of 35.

"I know he was probably joking, but we work hard and we've been through a lot," Randolph said of Miller's comments. "We're not whining or nothing. We go out every night and play hard with what we got."
