Thompson calls Cavs' team dinner ahead of playoffs 'The Last Supper'

Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson said that Thursday's players-only dinner before the start of their playoff series against the Detroit Pistons was an important team-building activity.

He's calling it the "The Last Supper," according to Cleveland.com's Chris Haynes.

"If you look back at Greek mythology and even back before World War I, every time a team would go out to battle, they'd eat first," Thompson told Haynes. "I think that's what it symbolizes before going out to battle. Having that last supper before it's time to go to war."

It's not known if Thompson was conflating other historical moments with the last meal of Jesus Christ, or if he just wanted to apply a cool name to the Cavaliers' dining activity.

In order to avoid an immediate fate like Christ's after said meal, Thompson said it's all about taking things one game at a time.

"Our championship game is Game 1 against the Pistons," Thompson continued. "That's our championship game, and that's how you have to approach every game because you can't look to June. That's not guaranteed. That's not promised. We have to take care of now."

Thompson added that team leaders LeBron James and James Jones implored focus.

The East's No. 1 seed, the Cavs beat the Pistons only once in four tries this season, although one loss came in the season finale when both teams were resting starters. Thompson's work on the glass will be key while facing a team featuring the NBA's leading rebounder in Andre Drummond.

"We have to lock in," Thompson said. "Our goal is to play into late June and don't take the process for granted."
