Report: Wizards offer Brooks 5-year deal worth $30M-$35M to become coach

The Washington Wizards have reportedly made a lucrative offer to Scott Brooks to become their head coach.

Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld traveled to meet with Brooks at his Southern California home Wednesday in hopes of signing him to a five-year deal worth somewhere in the range of $30 million-$35 million, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.

Stein reported earlier Wednesday that the Wizards were intensifying their pursuit of Brooks, in an effort to sign him before the Houston Rockets - who don't officially have a job opening yet with their season ongoing - get a chance to make their pitch.

The Rockets reportedly remained hopeful that Brooks would hold off on making a decision until that chance presented itself.

The Wizards have apparently had their hearts set on Brooks since relieving Randy Wittman of his duties following the conclusion of the team's disappointing season. To this point, reports have not linked them to any other potential coaching candidates.

Brooks posted a 338-207 record (.620 winning percentage) in parts of seven seasons coaching the Oklahoma City Thunder, leading them to the NBA Finals in 2012 and the Western Conference finals in 2011 and 2014.
