Sixers name Bryan Colangelo president of basketball operations
The Philadelphia 76ers officially announced the hiring of Bryan Colangelo as their president of basketball operations.
The news should come as little surprise, as reports surfaced on Thursday that the Sixers were working to finalize a deal with Colangelo following the resignation of former general manager and president Sam Hinkie.
"This is a moving forward of everything that is in place," Colangelo said.
Colangelo most recently served as the Toronto Raptors' president and GM from 2006-13, earning Executive of the Year honors during the 2006-07 season. Colangelo was responsible for drafting DeMar DeRozan and trading for Kyle Lowry during his time with the Raptors.
Prior to his arrival in Toronto, Colangelo served as the Phoenix Suns' general manager from 1994-2006, earning Executive of the Year in 2004-05. His draft record was particularly impressive during his Suns' tenure, picking Steve Nash, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Shawn Marion over a seven-year span.
Bryan's father, Jerry, will resume his role as chairman of basketball operations.
