VIDEO: Jones and Cormier brawl, UFC says 'There are going to be ramifications'
While Monday's press conference brawl between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is surely a good thing for business ahead of UFC 178 on Sept. 27, it isn't something the promotion finds acceptable.
In fact, the light heavyweight combatants could be facing discipline from the promotion, as UFC chief legal officer Kirk Hendrick revealed on the company's website:
This is certainly not a proud moment for the UFC organization. We expect more from our athletes, especially these two gentlemen, who are very well-trained and highly educated professionals. Their actions were clearly a violation of the UFC’s code of conduct.
...
There are going to be ramifications. Whether you’re the champion, or this is your first fight in the UFC, there are going to be ramifications from the UFC for these actions.
The UFC also mentioned that the Nevada State Athletic Commission will be reviewing the incident.
While the fighting and subsequent social media trash talk - see the post below for all of the details and video of the incident - make for a more exciting build, the UFC probably doesn't want this kind of thing to become the standard at promotional events.
Still though...can we fast forward seven weeks?
