Trainer: GSP not interested in McGregor fight, prefers Lawler or Hendricks

Whatever George St-Pierre's plans are for his fighting future, it would appear that Conor McGregor is not a part of them.

St-Pierre's trainer Kristof Midoux recently spoke to Globe-MMA about his close friend's latest preparations for a possible comeback, and he dismissed any talk of a fight between the two UFC megastars.

"That would be a money fight and GSP is a martial artist," Midoux told Montreal publication La Presse, according to Forbes' Matt Connolly.

"McGregor is a warrior and would likely say yes, but it would be a mismatch. Georges is not interested."

A St-Pierre-McGregor match was already a long shot given McGregor's recent dispute with the UFC and the fact that St-Pierre has been on semi-retirement for over two years. His last MMA match was a close split decision win against Johny Hendricks, and Midoux believes that the controversy surrounding that fight still gnaws at St-Pierre.

"Of course he's interested in avenging his performance versus Hendricks," Midoux said. "He and I both know he did not lose that fight, but he did not exactly win it either. With that said, he's more interested in (Robbie) Lawler since he holds the (welterweight) title and beat Hendricks."

Midoux is just one more voice familiar with the situation to speculate on St-Pierre's mindset, though he also mentioned that they are increasing the intensity of his training sessions to have him in fighting shape should the time come that he decides to officially step back into the Octagon.

"I will bring in sparring partners who will show him no deference," Midoux said. "The best of the best, people who don't know him."

This isn't the first time the retired champion has raised eyebrows with his workout routine. Last November, reports that St-Pierre and his team were simulating a six-week training camp reignited talks that he was on his way to ending his hiatus.
