Gerrard, Liverpool could reunite in LA Galaxy friendly

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre confirmed a tour of the United States is in the works for next summer, and a meeting with Steven Gerrard's new club, the LA Galaxy, is among the potential friendlies being explored.

The former Reds skipper left Anfield for Major League Soccer in the summer, and it looked to be the final farewell for Gerrard as a spell just training - not playing - with the Merseyside outfit looking the likelier course of action this winter.

Now, although no dates have been confirmed by Liverpool, it looks as if Gerrard could be in for an emotional reunion with his former team - albeit in the white of the Galaxy.

"That's something we have on our radar of ideas," Ayre confessed to BBC Sport in New York. "Steven is back in Liverpool at the moment, so I'm sure we can have a chance to see what he thinks."

A trip over the pond has become almost an annual trip for many sides looking to tap into the world's richest market.

"If you go back over the last seven or eight years, I don't think anybody in the Premier League would have predicted that this would become a key market," Ayre said.

"Everybody always knew the size of the opportunity in the U.S. was huge but I think everybody is trying to catch up with the pick-up it's had in the last five or six years."

On home soil, Liverpool is back in Premier League action Saturday with a tough trip to league leader Manchester City.
