LA Galaxy's Keane looks to 'upset the apple cart' in Seattle

Peter G. Aiken / USA TODAY Sports

LA Galaxy skipper Robbie Keane is looking for a victory in Wednesday's one-off match at Seattle Sounders for a place in the postseason.

Keane scored Sunday, but his club still fell 2-1 at Sporting Kansas City. The defeat meant no automatic bye into the playoffs, and instead a meeting with Seattle.

The Sounders finished above the Galaxy due to an extra regular-season win, and this slight superiority is enough for the contest to be played at Seattle's CenturyLink Field.

"No matter what's happened in the season, no matter what's happened yesterday or the last few weeks, it's gone," Keane said to ESPN FC.

"You get into the playoff situation now, it's like a final. It's a one-off game, so whether people have doubts about themselves or whether you did well or whether you didn't do well in the season, it's irrelevant now, because it's about what you do now."

The Californian outfit should have eased into the postseason, but a drab run of one win in nine games has made things difficult for Bruce Arena's men.

"It's not the end of it, there's no question about that. Are we capable of going to Seattle and winning? 100 percent," the Irishman said, who is the record holder of both appearances and goals for his national team.

Here's Keane:

Seattle probably are slight favourites - usually people are favourites when they're playing at home in front of their home fans - so they've got a lot to lose as well. In front of their home fans, at their own stadium, people are expecting them to probably get through but we're certainly going to be there to upset the apple cart.

The Galaxy has had some joy out of its rival in both the regular season and postseason of late. In three of the past five years, the club has met the Sounders in the playoffs, and been victorious over two legs each time.

Keane feels the results are a good omen, and the side's familiarity with playing in Seattle should provide a huge boost.

"No excuses now. We just have to go there and give it our best and hope we come out with a win."
