Report: Toronto FC to sign Sebastian Giovinco of Juventus

Toronto FC are on the verge of another major offseason acquisition.

The club is expected to announce the signing of Italian-international and Juventus midfielder Sebastian Giovinco, according to multiple reports

Giovinco's tenure at Juventus has been speculated to be coming to an end for some time. The 27-year-old openly voiced his disappointment to being resigned to the bench back in October and appeared in just 10 games – scoring a pair of goals – in all competition for the Italian giants this season.

Toronto FC swayed Giovinco to leave by offering a "truckload of money" according to John Molinaro of Sportsnet, despite other offers from European clubs. He is expected to join the Canadian club in July. Gareth Wheeler of TSN notes the contract is expected to be for four years worth $7 million annually.

Giovinco, who stands 5-foot-5, began his career with Juventus in 2006 and has since registered 12 goals in 91 matches. He enjoyed much of his success while on loan with Parma from 2010 to 2012, where he scored 22 goals in 66 games before returning to Juventus. Giovinco has 21 caps with the Italian national team, scoring one goal, but was left off the 2014 World Cup squad.

The signing marks an eventful past two days for TFC, who unveiled striker Jozy Altidore on Friday after receiving him from Sunderland for Jermain Defoe

Giovinco and Altidore will bring TFC's number of designated players to four. The league permits three, though Molinaro notes a new collective bargaining agreement being negotiated could increase the number to four. If an increase is not reached, striker Gilberto is likely the odd man out.
