Vanney dismisses notion of TFC as Cup favorite: 'Irrelevant for us'

Toronto FC manager Greg Vanney doesn't care about the outside noise claiming his side is expected to hoist the MLS Cup on Saturday night.

The Canadian club, playing on home soil, is viewed by many as the clear favorite heading into tomorrow's clash with Seattle, but speaking to the assembled media, Vanney says he and his players have given no thought to that notion and the supposed additional pressure it brings.

"I think it's irrelevant for us. It's not even been a discussion or a topic," the bearded bench boss said.

"We've got to prepare for a game with an opponent who has some strengths and has weaknesses, as do we. Regardless of who puts us as the favorite or not the favorite, it's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

"We've got to be sharp. The team that executes the best will win."

While Vanney didn't touch on specifics regarding his plan for slowing down the likes of Nicolas Lodeiro and Jordan Morris - for obvious reasons - he did admit that the Sounders, whose attack has been outshone by the free-scoring Reds in the postseason, do pose a serious threat.

"I think they have a good team and they have a dangerous team."
