<p>CARSON, Calif. (AP)  Kekuta Manneh scored in the 81st minute to give the Vancouver Whitecaps a 1-1 tie with 10-man Chivas USA on Sunday.</p>
<p>Vancouver (1-0-1) ultimately capitalized on a Chivas turnover to tie it. Dani Fragoso, who entered the match a minute earlier, lost the ball near the halfway line. Darren Mattocks pounced on it, carried it into the penalty area and fed Manneh, who rifled a shot into the back of the net.</p>
<p>Erick Torres scored for Chivas (1-0-1) in the 45th minute. Mauro Rosales sprinted down the middle of the field and fed Torres, who fired a shot on goal. The ball deflected off Vancouver's Jey DeMerit and bounced across the goal line for Torres' second goal of the season.</p>

With the disappointment Chivas USA and the Vancouver Whitecaps both experienced in 2013 now in the past, each side can build on a promising start to this season when they meet Sunday in Southern California.
Perhaps no team in MLS needed a season-opening victory more than Chivas, which went 6-20-8 to finish with a Western Conference-low 26 points and miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year. The worst season since the club debuted in 2005 with 18 points marked another dark moment for the Los Angeles-area's second MLS team, which has struggled with low attendance and had its franchise rights purchased by the league in February from Club Deportivo Guadalajara owner Jorge Vergara.
