John Danks doesn't want 2016 to be his last year

John Danks isn't ready to hang them up just yet after nine seasons in the big leagues.

The Chicago White Sox left-hander, who's entering the final year of a five-year, $65-million deal he signed with the club in December of 2011, has a personal goal of showing teams he still has credibility and will be a worthwhile addition at the end of the 2016 campaign.

"I would say I'm more focused on this year, and my feeling is if I can put up a good year, then it won't be my last year," Danks told reporters at SoxFest. "So I don't want it to be my last year. I don't want to plant that seed or anything. I'm a realist and understand that teams have to want me and for a team to want me, I've got to be good."

Danks made 30 starts for the White Sox last season, but hasn't owned an ERA under 4.33 since 2010, so he'll need to step up his game in order to achieve his goal.

"This is cool. This is living a dream. I certainly would like to play as long as I can," said the 30-year-old. "But at the same time, I understand there's definitely going to be a last day, a last year, and hopefully it's not this year."

The southpaw owns a career record of 79-100 with an ERA of 4.33 and WHIP of 1.34 across 1,481 innings of big-league work.
