Report: Dickerson most likely outfielder to be dealt by Rockies

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rockies' crowded outfield has left general manager Jeff Bridich mulling a number of solutions.

With the signing of Gerardo Parra to a three-year deal, the Rockies are left with four players vying for three spots. Carlos Gonzalez initially appeared to be the early front-runner to be traded, but it's now Corey Dickerson who is the player most likely to be dealt, according to sources of Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Dickerson was limited to 65 games last season due to plantar fasciitis. When healthy, the 26-year-old hit .304/.333/.536 with 10 home runs and 18 doubles. He hit a career-high 24 home runs in 2014 and is under team control through the 2019 season.

It was reported Tuesday that the Tampa Bay Rays have been linked to Dickerson, the youngest and most controllable outfielder of the four. Rays reliever Jake McGee was one named mentioned in a possible return.

Gonzalez, who has two years and $37 million left on his deal, expressed earlier this month that he would be open to a trade, but sources indicated to Rosenthal that there's little chance he is moved before spring training opens next month.

Player GP HR AVG/OBP/SLG WAR
Gonzalez 153 40 .271/.325/.540 3.1
Blackmon 157 17 .287/.347/.450 2.4
Parra 155 14 .291/.328/.452 1
Dickerson 65 10 .304/.333/.536 0.5

If there isn't a deal that satisfies Bridich, the Rockies could also keep all four, with Rosenthal suggesting they could look at moving Gonzalez to first base, despite him never having played the position. That would allow Parra and Dickerson to flank Charlie Blackmon in the corner outfield.

"I know it's popular to expect a trade, but it's tough to put odds on it right now," Bridich told reporters last week after announcing the Parra deal. "The last thing I want to do is apologize for bringing more talent into this organization."

The Rockies are without a permanent first baseman after letting Justin Morneau hit free agency this winter, and are expected to platoon Ben Paulsen and Mark Reynolds.
