Phillies agree to minor-league deals with Bailey, Mujica

Peter G. Aiken / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a pair of minor-league deals with relievers Andrew Bailey and Edward Mujica on Thursday.

Analysis:

Bailey pitched just 52 2/3 big league innings since 2012, due to injuries and shoddy performance, but this is a low-risk move that could pay off for the Phillies if Bailey can regain his form from several years ago.

Mujica has saved at least one game in the big leagues in four straight seasons, so it would be unwise to count him out, despite declining stuff. Last year he split time between the Red Sox and the A's and compiled a 4.75 ERA and just 30 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.
