Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Jimmy Rollins, for one, saw the humor in Madison Bumgarner's intense staredown with veteran umpire Joe West in San Diego on Thursday.

Less than 24 hours later, Rollins mocked their testy exchange in the first inning of his club's series opener against the Colorado Rockies, jokingly staring West down at third base after stroking a triple Friday at Coors Field. To his credit, Rollins lasted roughly eight seconds before cracking a smile.

After Thursday's game at Petco Park, a 5-4 loss for the Giants, Bumgarner pleaded ignorance when asked about his exchange with West, who umpired his first MLB game back 1976.

"I didn't even realize he was back there," Bumgarner deadpanned.

It remains to be seen whether Rollins will use a similar defense in his post-game media scrum.
