Mariners' Cruz day-to-day with back spasms: 'We'll see how he feels tomorrow'
The Seattle Mariners' struggling offense had their biggest bat depart Tuesday's game with an injury.
Nelson Cruz was removed in the fifth inning against the Cleveland Indians after feeling some pain during an at-bat. He was visited by the team's training staff before being replaced by Dustin Ackley. The Mariners revealed shortly after that the All-Star outfielder was removed with back spasms.
"I was told he's OK," manager Lloyd McClendon told reporters. "He had some tightness in his back. He got some treatment on it. It feels much better. It loosened up. We'll see how he feels tomorrow."
Cruz has been the Mariners most important bat this season, hitting .329/.384/.613 with a team-leading 18 home runs and 39 RBIs in 57 games.
Seattle entered Tuesday's game having scored the second-fewest runs in the majors.
