Rockies GM: Walt Weiss' job isn't in jeopardy

Walt Weiss' tenure in Colorado has resulted in little more than frustration for the former shortstop who took over as manager prior to the 2013 campaign.

Under his stewardship, the Rockies haven't finished higher than fourth place in their division. An inauspicious start in 2015, meanwhile, has done little to quiet the rumblings about his job security.

Still, even as the losses continue to mount - at 16-25, the Rockies own the third-worst winning percentage in baseball - Weiss doesn't seem worried about his future with the club.

"This is my third season, and we haven't won. And I'm sure people ask about my security here, I'm sure that becomes a topic," Weiss told Nick Groke of the Denver Post. "But I have to tell you, honestly, I have zero fear of losing my job. Not that it can't happen - I knew it could happen the day I signed up; it's almost inevitable in this seat.

"But it is definitely not a fear of mine."

The last few weeks have been particularly harrowing for Weiss, whose club owns a 5-15 record in May. General manager Jeff Bridich, however, continues to publicly endorse Weiss,

"There's no issue there," Bridich said. "Throwing around blame is a very dangerous thing to do. The manager and the coaches don't step on the field and take a bat and step into the batter's box, and they don't take the ball to stand on the mound."

It may behoove the Rockies to hand Weiss a bat or a glove, though. The club's production on offense ranks sixth-worst in the majors after accounting for park effects, while the pitching staff's park-adjusted ERA is tied for fifth-worst.

"It's frustrating for sure," he said. "There's urgency every day. There has to be. Patience is more of a big-picture outlook."
