The Cleveland Indians are set to welcome catcher Yan Gomes back to the lineup following a six-week absence.
Manager Terry Francona told reporters Thursday that Gomes, who has been sidelined since April 11 after suffering a sprained MCL, is expected to return behind the plate Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds.
The 27-year-old is coming off a strong season in which he slashed .278/.313/.472 with 21 home runs, 25 doubles and 74 RBIs in 135 games.
Gomes' addition should provide a major boost to the Indians's offense. Roberto Perez has filled in since Gomes landed on the disabled list, hitting .176/.308/.324 with three home runs in 28 games.
