White Sox's Abreu on 8-14 start: 'If the people want someone to blame, it's the players'

Chicago White Sox star slugger Jose Abreu isn't hanging the team's 8-14 start on manager Robin Ventura.

"We cannot blame Robin for the situation of the team," Abreu told Scott Merkin of MLB.com. "It's our fault, because we are the ones who are playing. We are the people who are in the field. Just for us, we are not doing the things right.

"If the people want someone to blame, it's the players, not Robin. He's doing what he can do, but the results aren't there."

The White Sox dropped their sixth-straight game Sunday after losing 13-3 to the Minnesota Twins and have scored just 10 runs during the skid.

Despite the offseason acquisitions of outfielder Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche, the White Sox rank last in the majors in home runs (12) and runs scored (70).

The pitching staff has also struggled, as their starters boast a 5.52 ERA - the third-worst mark in the majors. The addition of Jeff Samardzija has done little to quell those woes, as the right-hander is 1-2 with a 4.78 ERA across five starts.

"I don't think anybody is sitting around here and pointing fingers at somebody," Ventura said. "It's a team game we play, and we all have to do our part. I do, the players do, everybody does.

"It's not a time to sit there and point fingers. It's a time to play better, and they know that time is coming and they have to continue to grind and get through rough patches, and you realize what's there and what guys are capable of. The focus today is trying to win today, not anything that's happening in the future. We're focused on what we're doing today."
