VIDEO: Top 5 MLB plays of the week

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

Our third installment of the plays of the week may go down as one of the best of the season, with some serious play-of-the-year candidates.

Here are the best five plays from the third week of action:

5. Jose Iglesias has eyes in the back of his head

The Detroit Tigers shortstop tracked a fly ball deep into left field Sunday and made an incredible catch with his back to home plate to halt a Cleveland Indians rally in the ninth inning.

4. Kevin Pillar makes diving catch, then doubles off Adam Jones

Before tempers flared at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar made a ridiculous grab in the outfield to rob Adam Jones of a base hit before doubling off Chris Davis at second base.

3. Super Nolan Arenado turns ridiculous DP

Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, who claimed a Gold Glove Award in each of the past two seasons, showed off his amazing range and superlative arm strength at Coors Field on Friday night with an absurd double play in the top of the fourth inning.

2. Freddy Galvis

In the midst of his first season as the Philadelphia Phillies' everyday shortstop, Freddy Galvis continued his auspicious start to the campaign Saturday night with a remarkable diving play to rob Nick Markakis of a base hit.

Though Galvis appeared to hurt his left shoulder during his acrobatic display, he'll probably later admit it was worth it.

1. Alex Gordon does his best Superman impression

The Kansas City Royals are building quite the reputation as the bad boys of baseball, and Alex Gordon unintentionally boosted the club's gritty appeal Sunday afternoon. The four-time Gold Glover fearlessly launched himself into the left stands tracking a foul ball, taking out a Chicago White Sox fan in the process
