Brewers' Gomez to undergo more tests on injured hamstring

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez is returning to Milwaukee for more tests on his ailing right hamstring.

Gomez, who's already been ruled out for Thursday's series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals, suffered the injury late in Wednesday's 4-2 loss when he came up limping while running to first base on a fielder's choice in the ninth inning.

"I'll have to wait until (Thursday) morning and see how it is. Right now, it's sore," Gomez told reporters after the game. "Tomorrow is the day that we know if it's going to be a couple of days or a lot."

Gomez left the field under his own power, but said Friday that the pain had intensified overnight. He described the soreness as being near the back of his lower knee.

Losing Gomez for a significant period of time would be devastating for the last-place Brewers, who have dropped six of their first eight games to start the season.

Gomez, who missed 14 games in 2012 with a similar injury, said he hopes to avoid a trip to the disabled list but cautioned against setting a possible return date.

"I've had hamstring issues in the past, and I know when it's good or not," he said Thursday. "Hopefully, this will be OK. We'll see tomorrow."

Gerardo Parra replaced Gomez in center field Thursday.
