Cuban pitching prospect Alvarez reportedly drawing interest from several teams

Cuban pitcher Yadier Alvarez isn't yet eligible to sign with a major-league club, but that's not stopping teams from lining up in droves to land the hard-throwing phenom.

Alvarez, 19, is reportedly drawing interest from several clubs, including the big-spending Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals, as he awaits the league's decision regarding his eligibility.

Alvarez recently petitioned MLB to allow him clearance prior to the next international signing period beginning July 2, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, though there's been no indication from the league that he'll be approved in time.

Heyman mentions the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia PhilliesToronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants among the teams believed to have shown interest in the right-hander, who reportedly hits 94-97 mph with consistency on the radar gun.

If Alvarez is approved before the next period, it's likely three teams that have previously scouted him - the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees - would also be in play for his services. Otherwise, they'll be restricted to just $300,000 in international spending beginning July 2 after going over their allotments during the current period.
