Rockies GM denies talking with Mets regarding Tulowitzki
Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich has been on the job for less than a month and he's already shooting down his first major rumor.
Following reports on Monday claiming that the New York Mets had checked in on Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Bridich denied having any discussions about possibly shipping the three-time All-Star to Queens.
"We have literally not had one substantive conversation with the Mets," Bridich told Thomas Harding of MLB.com. "I talked to (Mets GM) Sandy Alderson, he said congratulations on the job and he said, 'What have you got in store?' Then he told me what he had in store."
The Mets are in search of an upgrade over Ruben Tejada at shortstop and the Rockies were reportedly willing to hear offers on Tulowitzki and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, though neither are being actively shopped.
"We don't have to move them, and we don't know if it's the right move to trade either one or both of those players who are All-Stars - perennial All-Stars," Bridich said. "One (Tulowitzki) plays a premium position and is the best shortstop in the game when he's healthy. That's not an easy bit to swallow for us."
