Tigers' Cabrera reportedly turns down playoff bonus
Members of playoff teams receive a cut of money for making the postseason, but Detroit Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera isn't interested in his share.
The two-time reigning AL MVP reportedly declined to sign for his portion of the playoff bonus, according to USA Today.
"I'm not signing anything," Cabrera allegedly told Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer, who went around the clubhouse collecting signatures.
Cabrera, who signed an eight-year, $248-million contract extension in March, may not need the money, but is leaving a sizable chunk of cash on the table.
USA Today reports that players on the Boston Red Sox who received a full share for winning the 2013 World Series were cut a check for $307,000.
"I just want the ring," Cabrera said.
Cabrera's Tigers, who have reached the American League Championship Series in three consecutive seasons, and the World Series in 2012, face the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in Game 1 of the ALDS.
