Giants' Posey underwent MRI on ailing back; getting precautionary day off Friday

The health of San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey could be a concern heading into next week's wild-card game.

Manager Bruce Bochy revealed prior to Friday's game with the San Diego Padres that the former National League MVP underwent an MRI on his troublesome back, but the results yielded nothing to be concerned about. Bochy is, however, giving Posey the day off Friday as a precaution. Posey's back has flared up numerous times throughout the season, but it hasn't kept him out of action for more than a day or two at a time.

The Giants, who clinched a playoff berth Thursday, enter play one game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates for the top wildcard spot and home advantage in the play-in game.
