National League Game Summary - Washington at Miami
Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals certainly seem ready for the postseason.
Strasburg tossed seven scoreless innings for the NL East champs in Sunday's 2- 1 victory over Miami to complete the franchise's first four-game sweep of the Marlins.
The Nationals broke a scoreless tie with three extra-base hits in the fifth. After Jose Lobaton led off the frame with a double, Nate Schierholtz tripled into the right-field gap and scored on Anthony Rendon's two-bagger down the left-field line.
That's all Strasburg (13-11) needed. The hard-throwing righty retired 13 straight at one point and only allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five in his outing.
Washington wrapped up its road slate with a 45-36 record after going 9-2 on this road trip.
"It was a good road trip for us," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. "We won some close ones."
Nathan Eovaldi (6-13) suffered his seventh straight losing decision despite a quality start. He was charged with two runs on seven hits over six frames.
Craig Stammen threw a hitless eighth behind Strasburg, and Rafael Soriano survived giving up a run in the ninth to post his 32nd save.
Reed Johnson led off the ninth with a pinch-hit double and eventually scored Miami's only run on Donovan Solano's sacrifice fly.
"We're grinding it out," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.
