Astros fire Bo Porter: Former manager reportedly requested player quotes from articles

Joe Camporeale / USA TODAY Sports

Former Houston Astros manager Bo Porter reportedly asked the club's public relations staff to provide him player quotes from articles, according to MLB.com's Richard Justice.

The requests were allegedly made during his first month on the job, notes Justice.

Speculation intensified in recent days prior to the Astros' firing of Porter, with reports suggesting he and general manager Jeff Luhnow had a fractured relationship.

Luhnow said Monday the team is beginning the search to find permanent replacements for Porter and bench coach Dave Trembley immediately. Tom Lawless was named interim manager, while Adam Everett will fill Trembley's role for the rest of the season.

Texas Rangers bench coach Tim Bogar, who played four seasons with the Astros from 1997-2000, is a leading candidate for the managerial post, according to Justice.
