Tigers' Sanchez concerned he won't pitch again during regular season

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

After experiencing a setback Monday in his recovery from a pectoral strain, Detroit Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez isn't confident he'll take the mound again before the regular season ends, according to Fox Sports' Jon Morosi.

The Tigers were optimistic Sanchez might be able to return from the disabled list for Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox, though it now appears doubtful the 30-year-old will be able to pitch during the latter stages of the season.

Once considered the favorite to secure a division title, the Tigers have seen their lead dissipate in recent weeks amid a spate of ineffective starting pitching. Detroit's rotation owns an unsightly 4.96 ERA over the last two weeks, as both Robbie Ray and Buck Farmer have struggled mightily since being thrust into starting roles for the Tigers.
