Twins GM: Manager Ron Gardenhire likely to return in 2015
While no statement has been released from the Minnesota Twins, general manager Terry Ryan indicated Thursday that manager Ron Gardenhire is likely to return in 2015.
Ryan, who had cancer surgery in February, was first asked about his own future by Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:
“Let me get through the year,” he said. “Like everything around this organization, we usually wait until the end of the year before we make any decisions.”
What about Gardenhire?
“Same stuff. He is signed for next year, so you don’t have to worry about him.”
He’ll be back?
“Yeah, yeah, I would say he’ll be back,” Ryan said.
The Twins occupy last place in the American League Central Division with a 56-70 record - 14 games behind the first-place Kansas City Royals and 12 1/2 games back in the wild-card race.
Ryan said Gardenhire hasn't had the best year, but he's not the only one at fault.
“We can all do better,” the general manager said. “We’re not where we need to be. We can all do a better job. He has to, I have to, as an organization, we all have to. We’re just not playing up to what we’re wishing we were, consequently we’re not playing games that mean much in September.”
Gardenhire has lost at least 95 games in each of the last three seasons.
