The Toronto Blue Jays acquired third baseman Danny Valencia from the Kansas City Royals on Monday, in exchange for pitcher Liam Hendriks and catcher Erik Kratz.

The 29-year-old Valencia appeared in 36 games for the Royals, posting a line of .282/.328/.382 (96 OPS+) over 119 plate appearances. Valencia's league-average line is boosted by his favorable performance against left-handed pitching. Over the course of his career he's hit .333/.369/.510 in 498 plate appearances versus southpaws. He's making only $532,500 this season and is arbitration-eligible through 2017.

In Hendriks, the Royals get a 25-year-old pitcher that has struggled to find his footing in the big leagues. He has a 6.06 ERA in 33 career appearances. His Triple-A numbers are favorable as he sports a 2.33 ERA in 108 1/3 innings with Buffalo.

Kratz, a 34-year-old journeyman backstop, has bounced back and forth repeatedly between the major leagues and Triple-A. In 501 career plate appearances he's hit .216/.271/.397 (81 OPS+) with 21 home runs.
